It's Not About the Walk. Racing to Save Lives.

keep up with every step ~ read my blog ~ donate generously ~ give life

Greetings From Walker Girl!

Thanks for checking out my site to learn more about my story, follow my blog, or just look around. This site isn't really about me. It's about my friends, family and honored cancer heros who I walk for. It's also not about the walk. It's about TRULY making a difference in other people's lives ~ specifically those battling blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma and mylenoma.

In September 2010, I'll be run/walking the Virginia Beach Rock n' Roll half marathon. Between now and then, I'm both coaching others and training with a wonderful TEAM of dedicated run/walkers and runners who are training for their own endurance event in Virginia Beach, San Fransisco, or DC. We all have our own stories, our own tragedies, our own reasons. The common goal is the same: TO FIND A CURE. To no longer need a reason to train and fundraise to help cancer patients beat the odds...

So I decided to take the focus off the walk and put it where it belongs: ON THE FUNDRAISING. At the end of the day, nothing I do will make a difference if we can't find a cure and help save lives. That's why, for me, this time: it's not about the walk!

Wanna Help?

I know you can help me shatter my low fundraising goal of just $1,700 this season. You can help in many ways ~ just pick and choose what works for you!

  • Click here to donate today. Every donation matters.
  • Place a link to my blog and fundraising page on your Web site, Facebook page, blog or Twitter account.
  • Send an e-mail to your family, friends, co-workers or neighbors and ask them to donate to my cause too.
  • Become a Corporate Sponsor. If you own a business, $1,000 = your logo on our race singlets & more!
  • Donate items or services that I can raffle off or sell on e-Bay for further fundraising opportunities.
  • Help with Corporate Sponsorships by mentioning this opportunity to doctors, mechanics, clerks, etc.

I know we can accomplish this goal together, one step at a time. It's not about the walk. But if the walk helps me generate awareness, raise money, and save lives, then I say: walk on!

Walk This Way with TNT - Winter 2010

Do you dream of competing in an endruance event, but aren't a runner?

Me too! That's why I train and coach with Team in Training, a coaching staffed training event through the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). We provide the coaching, the mentoring, a series of clinics to teach you all about technique, drills, stretching, injury prevention, proper shoes, core strength and nutrition -- all with experts in the field! And you'll have awesome run and walk coaches who will lay out your training schedule, organize team walks/runs, set up water stops and provide coaching and motivation tips along the way!

I've worked with TNT off and on over the last 9 years, and love it to much I now dedicate my time as a walk and run/walk coach so I can help others accomplish their own dreams of completing a marathon! We're now signing up partipants for the Winter Season, which I believe kicks off in August with events in December 2010 and January 2011. There's plenty of time to train for an endurance walking event - or you can run or run/walk too! All of this is free for you, in exchange for fundraising to help find a cure for blood cancers. Pretty easy exchange, huh? You do something good for someone else AND yourself!

Benefits of walking/run-walking with TNT:

  • Walking is a great way to lose weight, get cardio fit, and build endurance.
  • You'll have a team of friends who are both walkers and runners to support you throughout your journey.
  • Experienced Alumni will be at training events to cheer you on & encourage you by sharing their experiences.
  • Fundraising Mentors are available throughout the season to help motivate with creative fundraising and a unique group fundraising event!
  • You make a difference in the lives of others by raising funds to help find a cure for blood cancers! You'll hear inspirational stories from cancer survivors and patients, and you'll work 1x1 with an honored hero patient throughout the season. It's an honor to learn their stories and fundraise on behalf of their families. A good reminder of why we're doing what we're doing - and remembering, it's not just about the walk.
  • TNT will get you physically ready to walk or run/walk a half or full marathon. You'll have trained coaches, water stop support, and many clinics to get you ready!

Come walk with us in 2010/2011 and turn your exercise into an act of caring! Contact me if you want more information on how to get involved.

Walk on, Colleen
